Beliefs
What we believe at Mission Bay Community Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church.
Our Beliefs
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is at the center of everything. We believe that Jesus reconciles us to God. He lived an exemplary life, was killed by Rome as a criminal on the common cross for his unapologetic compassion, and rose again to prove God's love and compassion cannot die.
The Trinity
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. God exists in three Persons: God the Creator, God the Christ and God the Holy Spirit. God is sacred love.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is a sacred text of God. It is an authoritative document of people's encounter with the Divine through the Judeo-Christian tradition and applicable to our everyday lives.
The Separation
We believe that sin separates each of us from God, neighbor (including all creation), and our selves which causes harm and limits God's blessings.
The Reconciliation
We believe living into the only two Christian commandments, "Love God with all your heart, soul, body, and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself." These commandments allow us to live in sustainable relationship with all God's creation. Jesus's teachings and committing to God's will for our lives in community allows us to best live these commandments.
The Church
We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together. We are a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation, meaning we don't have bishops, we vote for our leadership. We are denominationally pro-choice, believe in multiple gender identities and sexualities as a diverse expression of God's love, and disavow the Doctrine of Discovery and settler-colonial Christianity.
