PC(USA) has a history of social reform and action for those who cannot speak for themselves
We are a part of the PC(USA)
Mission Bay Community Church is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a traditionally mainline denomination with a rich history and theology and the Presbytery of San Francisco, a diverse group of 70+ Bay Area Presbyterian congregations.

While there are certainly some drawbacks to being part of any large institution/denomination, the benefits of our connection to the PC (USA) far outweigh the negatives.

  • Support: Not only are we supported financially by our national and local entities, we are also supported through prayer, educational opprotunites, and other resources that would not otherwise be available.
  • Connections: While MBCC values the commonalities in culture/context that we have, we know that God's creation is far more diverse in ethnicity, language, age, theology, politics, class, life-stage, and on and on. The connectional nature of the PC(USA) allows us to bridge many of the differences through common projects/gatherings while valuing and nurturing our own unique nature and perspective.
  • History and Tradition: While we do not worship our history and tradition, we understand that there is great value in know from where one has come. Our rich history, dating back to the Reformation, grounds us in a theology and governance that allows us to both grow in the faith while maintaining a sense of connection and accountability to those who have come before and those who will come after us. We do not engage in traditions for tradition's sake, but we try to live those traditions in relevant and meaningful ways.

Deep Thoughts...

From Paul...
The environment at MBCC allows me to question without feeling as if I have a lack of faith. By being accepted wherever I am, the environment is friendly, relaxed and conducive to me feeling included in the Christian faith. Bruce's approach encourages real understanding and pursuing the truth unto its innermost parts. I really feel the presence of Christ.
