Past Experience:

Pastoral Intern at Conyers Presbyterian Church, Conyers, Georgia; 350 members, 2010 – 2011. “My internship confirmed my calling to parish ministry as I fell in love with preaching, teaching, and pastoral care and as that faith community affirmed those gifts.”

Youth Director, College Park Presbyterian Church, College Park, Georgia: 2009 – 2010

Dawn’s interest in our church:
I deeply appreciate the energy and vibrancy of this church. MBCC attracts my attention because you are rooted in the faith of Jesus Christ and committed to being the church across diverse peoples and opinions. This image of diverse voices worshipping together and feeling safe to disagree is what I find in our scriptures to be a great picture of the Kingdom of God. The preaching style of questions and communal sharing appeals to me and fits the way that I feel called to share the Word of God. I also appreciate the many ways in which MBCC is involved in the community through outreach, fellowship, and interfaith dialogue.

Highlights from Dawn’s references:
Dawn is a really fine leader and has the potential to be one of the “stars” of the future in our denomination. She is very bright, teachable, and wise for her age.

– Steve Hayner, President of Columbia Theological Seminary

Dawn is a confident and able preacher and worship leader that shows an experience beyond her years. — Pastor Tom Sparks, Conyers Presbyterian Church
Dawn is wise beyond her years. She has a very solid, unshakable personality, great spiritual maturity, and a strong grasp of the Bible and her own beliefs. She has a deep passion for learning. She listens well, is slow to speak, and has profound appreciation for those around her.

– Scott Moffitt (Session member for Dawn’s home church)

Statement of Faith: God is alive and at work in the world! Following as disciples of Jesus, I believe we are called to be awake and aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our midst. We are to join our stories with God’s story found in scripture and be a part of the Holy Spirit’s movement in the world. In my baptism, I am called to follow Jesus and to bear testimony to the ways in which God is moving in my life for the building up of Christ’s kingdom.

I believe in God the Creator. God “knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). Through the waters of my baptism, I am claimed by the power of the Holy Spirit. I have been called by name and I belong to God (Isaiah 43). God created all that is around me: The earth, the sky, the wind, all that I understand, and all that I do not understand. God has entrusted this creation into humanity’s care. God covenanted with the Israelites and throughout time has led and nourished God’s people. I am actively engaged in this covenant with God and trust God with my whole being.

I believe in Jesus Christ. I trust that Jesus is Lord and I am not. I call upon my Lord in times of suffering and trial. I find comfort in the forgiveness of sins given only through Jesus and I find peace promised to me in his life, death, and resurrection. I learn of God’s character through Jesus and model my life after him. Jesus is my healer, my teacher, my judge, and my savior. I seek to follow Christ through prayer, scripture, and walking with people through their joys and struggles, not judging, but being hospitable of all of God’s diverse peoples.

I believe in the Holy Spirit. I feel the Spirit’s presence with me in my faith journey. I am especially attuned to the Spirit’s work of peacemaking and understanding in situations of diversity where there is lack of understanding, respect, and harmony. The Holy Spirit gave movement for the birth of the church (Acts 2) and I appreciate the Presbyterian Church’s emphasis on listening for the Holy Spirit in times of discernment and decision.

The church is the body of Christ and we are united in Christ’s love. Our Triune God is in communion with Godself and intends for us, God’s creation, to be in communion with God and with one another. I love the church and feel called to serve God through my pastoral presence within the church and in the world. It is in the church that we, by the power of the Holy Spirit, proclaim the Word and seal the Word in the sacraments. The Holy Spirit claims us in the waters of our baptism and seals us into the covenant with God and God’s people. Our faith is nurtured in the remembrance of our baptism and we are called in our baptism to serve God and one another. It is in our participation of the Lord’s Supper that we remember Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and are fed by Christ’s real and spiritual presence with us. In communion, we await Christ’s return in glory.
