Not registered yet? Go to http://bit.ly/SFAIDSWalkPC

We suggest arriving between 9 and 9:30 AM for the Walk, 1 pm for Potluck BBQ.

Where to meet:
Our team, called Presbyterians Fighting AIDS, is assigned to Box 7, near other large teams. We are by the panhandle entrance to Golden Gate Park, and near the starting line, NOT the stage area. The link for the map is http://www.aidswalk.net/sanfran/eventinfo/materials/venuemap.pdf Please print out the map and circle Box 7. If you get lost, go to the TEAM Information Booth for help. The map is also shown on the aidswalk.net/sanfran website.

Sign-in
Proceed first to the area marked “General Sign-in” (see map) Turn in any checks/cash (no minimum, so even $1 and $5 bills are welcome) along with your sponsor sheets, and receive your official AWSF button and program guide. Then go to Box 7. Sign-In opens at 9 AM, and the opening ceremony is at 9:45. We’ll head towards the starting line around 10:15. If you plan to come late, still go to Box 7 and we will have team members waiting there to greet you, ”guard” excess clothing, and start our team’s post-walk BBQ.

Getting there
We recommend taking public transportation (Muni 71 Haight Noriega, or N- Judah go near Sharon Meadow; call 311 for Muni info). However, if you must drive, the UCSF Parnassus lot fills up sometime after 9 AM so be early.

Getting sponsors
Whether you are participating in person, or are an absentee Virtual Walker, there is still time to get sponsors (or sponsor yourself). Remember that cash/check donations have no minimum. Only the credit card online donations have minimums (to cover bank fees). Take advantage of the Facebook and app. Each registered walker has their own fundraising webpage on the website, and should have received an individual logon ID and password.

Team BBQ
1 PM, Box 7. Feel free to either bring your own sandwich to eat after the walk, or bring your own hot dogs/sausages (and buns) to BBQ. Also, if possible, please bring either a breakfast item or a lunch side dish to share. There will be space at the team box to put out food. However, since we may expect warm weather, if you bring something perishable, please bring it in an ice chest so that it does not spoil in the sun. Keep in mind that water/sodas can be very heavy to hand carry in and out.

BBQ RSVP
So that we don’t end up with with ten packages of the same food item, please let us know what breakfast item or lunch side dish you plan to bring, by either writing on MBCC’s Facebook AWSFevent page, or emailing marc@missionbaycc.org. Similarly, questions can be directed to Marc by the same methods. MBCC will provide plates, utensils, napkins, and cups.

What to wear
Dress in layers. It may get hot this weekend. Use lots of sunscreen!

Thank you for your support of AIDS Walk San Francisco. See you on Sunday at Golden Gate Park!

Last night the pastoral relationship between Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow and Mission Bay Community Church was dissolved. The congregational meeting included a report from the Session about short term staffing plans, an introduction to the process for looking for a new pastor and a tearful and moving time of prayer. We also also heard plans for a Farewell Celebration [please contact Tammie or Jeanette to RSVP and/or check out the FB Event Invite]

Central to the time was to receive the “Covenant for Our Future” that outlined the expectations about interaction between the congregation, Bruce and his family in the future. Is is below, but if you have any questions please feel free to contact any of the members of the Transition Team: Jeannette Feddes, Tammie Choi, Jeff Miner, Dave Guliano and Kristen Tatum.

Bruce’s final Sunday will be May 29, 2011 after which he will take one month of vacation officially ending his call as pastor on June 30, 2011.

A Covenant for Our Future
understandings about the future relationship between
Mission Bay Community Church and Bruce, Robin, Evelyn, Abigail and Analise.

The intention of this covenant is to act as a reminder of the importance of the relationship between pastor and congregation. To ensure a healthy transition from the current called pastor to an interim pastor and then to a new permanent pastor all must exercise great self-restraint in order to allow time for all to reflect on past ministry, dream about future ministries and allow for a relationship with future pastors to flourish.

We also acknowledge that there are complexities which can and will influence the nature of this particular pastoral transition: existing social networking relationships, the Reyes-Chow/Pugh Family remaining in the area, Bruce not moving to pastor another congregation and his visibility and involvement in the public arena.

The following measures may seem harsh, even legalistic, but the intent is to be forthright in our commitment to create space for all involved to grieve, reflect and dream.

With a posture of grace, understanding and trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit . . .

We all covenant to . . .

Hold one another in prayer.

Refrain from all intentional interaction online or in person until at least one year after the installation of a new called pastor including online commenting, texting, phone calls, etc.

Treat online interaction with great care understanding that some people may need to “unfriend” on Facebook, “unfollow” on Twitter and/or find ways to remove undue social media visibility.

The Members and Friends of Mission Bay Community Church covenant to . . .

Pray for the emotional and spiritual well-being of Bruce, Robin, Evelyn, Abigail and Analise as they discern God’s calling on their spiritual and church lives.

No longer approach Bruce or his family regarding issues of pastoral care, congregational life or future pastoral leadership.

Allow ourselves adequate time to honestly, fully and faithfully grieve the end of Bruce’s time as pastor and the departure of his family from the life of the church.

Welcome and embrace new pastoral leadership and joyfully engage in a process of discerning God’s calling on our future.

Bruce, Robin, Evelyn, Abigail and Analise covenant to . . .

Pray for the emotional and spiritual well-being of Mission Bay Community Church, as individuals and as the gathered beloved community as they discern God’s calling on their ministry.

Allow ourselves time to grieve the end of a pastoral and congregational relationship.

Seek out a new worshipping home and fully participate in the life of the larger church.

Bear the primary responsibility for maintaining healthy boundaries, refraining from and discouraging any interactions regrading issues of pastoral care, congregational life or future pastoral leadership.

July 17th!

Be sure to register for our Presbyterian team at AIDS Walk San Francisco. It is very important that folks sign up early, even if summer schedules are not yet clear, because the team size (based on advance registrations) determines the size of the team table for us to meet and hold our post-walk BBQ. If you remember the area for our team the past couple years, you will understand why we need to build a large multi-church team to show a strong PCUSA presence, since we are surrounded by other large church teams (the Lutheran, Catholic, and Episcopal denominations have particularly large teams).

Remember, registration is free, no minimum fundraising required, no penalty if your plans change, it’s kid friendly, and it’s pet friendly. Families should register each family member separately (for example, a family of 3 will have 3 registrations). Watch this space for further event details, which will be held 7/17 at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

Online registration www.aidswalk.net/sanfran –> register –> join a team –> join an existing team –> Presbyterians or contact marc@missionbaycc.org for help.

If you were on our team last year, you can ask marc@missionbaycc.org to have your registration transferred to this year’s team, instead of navigating through the online registration.
