“I have chosen to be a member of MBCC because, here, I have grown the most in my faith. Though sometimes the journey is joyful and sometimes painful, I am fortunate enough to belong to a community that supports and encourages me on this journey. Mission Bay Community Church is a blessing!”
–Hilary, Church School extraordinaire
Wikipedia says…
A community is a collection of living things that share an environment, so forming a recognizable group. These living things can be plants or animals; any species, any size. Communities are characterized by interaction in many ways. The definitive aspect of community is that each subject in the mix have something in common that allows an identification.
While this is a great definition in general, whenever you add that Jesus guy into the picture, definitions expand and chaos ensues. Faith in Christ is what brings us together both as part of the larger worldwide church as well as a community known as Mission Bay Community Church.
We cannot be Christians in isolation. The intrinsic nature of Christ’s teaching is all about our lives as part of and in relationship to a community. Being in community forces us to understand and confront complex issues of compassion, justice, morality, behavior, faith, love and on and on. Community is a fundamental part of being Christian, and—without a commitment to it—we are not being faithful to God’s claim on us as created children of God.
