Who We Are

We are a community brought together in our curiosity and desire to know Jesus Christ.

We encounter the world and all its complexities with integrity, authenticity, and a healthy dose of humor. Coming together amidst our diverse views as individuals is a great witness to our faith in Christ in the world.

Mission Bay Community Church encourages people to question and grow in their faith. We support each other in taking action in the world, even when it involves risk. In our community, we love when forgiveness is sought and celebrate together when life brings new beginnings.

We cannot be Christians in isolation. The intrinsic nature of Christ’s teaching is all about our lives as part of and in relationship to a community. Being in community forces us to understand and confront complex issues of compassion, justice, morality, behavior, faith, and love together. Community is a fundamental part of being Christian, and without a commitment to it, we are not being faithful to God’s claim on us as created children of God.

We are a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a Christian denomination that celebrates marriage as a union between any two people.

What We Believe

We believe in God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe in a creative God, who formed us in our mothers’ wombs and claims us by name.

We believe in Christ who forgives us over and over again.

We believe in the Holy Spirit—despite our lack of understanding—as we marvel at its presence among us and work in the world.

We believe in diversity of thinking. Rather than defining a fixed set of rules, we rely upon Christ (as Lord of our conscience) and each other (as a community of believers) to guide our accountability to each other, to our community, to Christ, and to the world.

Our Ministries

Bible Study

Connect with scripture and with each other. Every Monday from 10-11am, we meet in the MBCC living room for Bible study and prayer. Children are welcome! We also have a small group that meets every other Monday evening for dinner and Bible study. Email the office for more information.

Children + Youth

Kids are vital to our church life! They add energy, creativity, and humor to everything we do. Each Sunday, our children’s director reads Bible stories and provides fun crafts. We also host vacation Bible school, Christmas and Easter activities, and a citywide Presbyterian youth group. Email us for details.

Coffee with the Pastor

Are you a visitor or a new member of our community? Our pastor would love to welcome you with a cup of coffee and answer any questions you may have about our church. Email Pastor Dawn to set up a time and place that works for you.

Doubts + Stouts

Each month we gather for craft beer and fun theological/philosophical conversation. We engage questions that are hard to reconcile with our faith. We meet the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM at Doctor’s Lounge near the church. Email Joel for more information.

Excelsior Community Food Pantry

Started from the seeds of a bible study at MBCC, the Excelsior Community Food Panty currently serves 300 families every Saturday in partnership with the Jewish Home of San Francisco (302 Silver Ave.). We are always looking for volunteers! To get involved, email the Food Pantry or make a donation to support their work.

LGBT Community

Are you interested in strengthening ties with other LGBTQ people in our church community? Want to join a conversation about how to provide support to each other and to new LGBT attendees? Anyone is welcome! Email us for more information.

Our music in worship is led by our musician and volunteers from our community. Do you like to sing or play an instrument? Come join us to jam, practice or lead in worship each Sunday at 3:00 PM. Email the church office for more information.

New Member Class

Every so often we offer a three part class where you can explore what it means to become an MBCC member. At the end of the class, you have the chance and perhaps decide to join our church. Membership is a way to put your discipleship into action. Together we help hold each other accountable to Christ’s calling in our lives. Email Dawn if you’re interested!

We infuse worship into all areas of our lives. One of the ways we worship is by honoring God with our resources. Giving is gratitude to a God that has provided for us.

Thank you for helping bring the word of God’s loving hospitality to the city of San Francisco!

All donations are tax-deductible.
